A mid-size SaaS company in the project management space was generating fewer than 8,000 organic visits per month despite having a solid product and a blog with over 200 articles. Their content was well-written but poorly structured from a search perspective: thin meta descriptions, no internal linking strategy, missing schema markup, and page load times exceeding 4 seconds on mobile. They had tried working with two SEO agencies before coming to us, but the improvements were marginal — mostly cosmetic title tag changes that moved a few keywords from page three to page two.

The deeper problem was architectural. Their site ran on a legacy CMS that generated bloated HTML, served unoptimized images, and had no concept of programmatic pages. They needed to rank for thousands of long-tail queries like "project management for construction teams" and "agile sprint planning template," but creating individual pages for each manually was not viable. The engineering team was also skeptical of SEO recommendations that felt hand-wavy, so everything we proposed needed to be backed by data and measurable in code.

Compounding the challenge, three direct competitors had recently invested heavily in content marketing and were outranking them on virtually every high-intent keyword. The client needed not just optimization but a fundamentally different approach to search visibility — one that combined engineering rigor with SEO strategy.

We started with a full technical audit powered by a custom crawler we built using Puppeteer and Node.js. The crawler rendered every page with JavaScript (critical since the site used client-side rendering for some features), extracted Core Web Vitals, checked for broken links, validated schema markup, and generated a structured report. This audit revealed 847 issues across 312 pages, which we prioritized into three tiers: critical (blocking indexation), important (hurting rankings), and cosmetic (nice-to-have improvements).

For the programmatic content strategy, we built a Next.js application that generated pages dynamically from a structured content database. Each page template was designed with SEO-first principles: semantic HTML, proper heading hierarchy, FAQ sections with schema markup, internal linking blocks that connected related pages, and breadcrumb navigation. We created keyword clusters using SERP overlap analysis — grouping queries that returned similar results into single pages to avoid cannibalization — and generated over 1,400 programmatic pages targeting long-tail queries.

The Core Web Vitals work involved migrating critical pages to server-side rendering, implementing responsive image pipelines with next-gen formats (WebP and AVIF), lazy-loading below-the-fold content, and eliminating render-blocking JavaScript. We also built a rank tracking dashboard that pulled data from Google Search Console API and displayed keyword positions, click-through rates, and indexation status in real time, giving the client visibility into progress without waiting for monthly agency reports.
